The Metropolitan Chess Club is one of the Senior Chess Clubs in Western Australia, with over 40 members. The playing strength of members range from State Champions to adult beginners and juniors.
Naturally, the Metro Club is affiliated with the CAWA (Chess Association of Western Australia) which in turn is affiliated with the ACF (Australian Chess Federation). Club members must therefore be financial members of the CAWA to enjoy the benefit of participating in Australian rated tournaments held at the club.
Many members support the club through representation in the Harris/Edwardes Trophy Inter-Club competition. The Metro Club has won the Premier Division on many occasions since the competition began in 1958.
Our members are also keen to play in the WA Grand Prix events that are organised by the CAWA over selected weekends.

2026 Bernard Anton Shield - Congratulations to Metro (11/09/26)
The second Bernard Anton Shield Interclub match (Metro's home match) versus Perth Chess Club was held on the 10th September at Metropolitan Chess Club.
Perth CC managed to win the night (18.5 - 17.5) but was unable to make up the deficit after their home match on the 3rd of June (Metro CC 24.0 - Perth CC 12.0).
Congratulations goes to Metro CC for winning this years Bernard Anton Shield.
2026 Metropolitan Spring Allegro (05/09/26)
The 2026 Metropolitan Spring Allegro (6 rounds) was held as a Chess960 tournament and played over 2 consecutive club nights - 27 Aug & 3 Sept.

2026 Respini Tournament (31/08/26)
Metro's final classical tournament for the year, the Respini, will be starting on 17 September.

Players will be divided into round-robin divisions based on rating. The A and B divisions will be ACF and FIDE rated; other divisions will be ACF rated.
Divisions will have approximately 10 players each (and at least 9), with the bottom division expanding into a Swiss if we can't make the groups divide nicely.
For round-robins, the full schedule is set at the start of the tournament. If you know in advance that you won't be able to make a particular night, then you should try to reschedule with your opponent. For a 10-player division, two nights are set aside for postponements.
The entry fee will be $45 for adults and $35 for juniors or full-time students; club membership is required.
