In the earlier years, the format of the Blitz Handicap Tournament was similar to the Blitz Tournament except that handicaps are placed on each player as assessed on their performance in the Blitz Tournament played the week before. The handicaps were the differing amounts of time that each player had for all of their moves in each game they played. This time might vary between 3 minutes and say 7 minutes.
Currently the Blitz Handicap Tournament is played as a Swiss with handicap times based on the players current rating i.e. 1 min up to 5 mins.
Aggregate points are awarded for players performances in their respective rating groups.
2026 Club Blitz Handicap Tournament
For this year the Club Blitz Handicap was held after the AGM as a Swiss Tournament (7 rounds).
The format for this year's event differed from previous events where times for each player was based on the player's current rating.
For this year, each game had a total time of 10 mins, with no increment, and the difference in each players rating determined what time each player had for the game. To determine the time each player receives, firstly remove the last 2 digits of the players rating (i.e. 2105 ACF becomes 21, 1345 ACF becomes 13 etc). The gap between the truncated ratings is then used to determine each players time according to the table below:
